Ad copy for Assistant Professor of Music Therapy
The School of Music at the University of Iowa seeks applicants for a tenure-track position in Music Therapy. This is a nine-month, full-time appointment beginning in August, 2022. The successful candidate will join a dynamic and supportive team committed to educating and mentoring students in a complex world.
Responsibilities may include:
· Teaching undergraduate and graduate courses
· Supervising music therapy practicum experiences
· Advising graduate theses and dissertations
· Developing a scholarly research agenda
· Seeking funding for research initiatives
· Collaborating with community partners
· Engaging in service to the profession, community, and university
Required qualifications:
· Earned doctorate in Music Therapy or related field (in hand by August, 2022)
· Minimum 5 years full-time clinical music therapy experience (or equivalent)
· Current music therapy national board certification
Desirable qualifications:
· Collegiate teaching experience
· Clinical supervision experience
· Record of research productivity
· Experience with online learning
· Experience advising graduate theses and/or dissertations
· Active involvement in professional initiatives (e.g., conference presentations, committee service)
· Commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and belonging

The Music Therapy program includes undergraduate, equivalency, master’s and doctoral students. This nationally recognized program began in 1976 and maintains a long history of excellence in teaching, research, and clinical work. Graduates of the program include music therapy clinicians, clinical supervisors, collegiate educators, productive researchers, and national leaders throughout the United States and worldwide.
The School of Music seeks a motivated and collaborative individual who is committed to moving and cultivating the Music Therapy Program into a clear position of leadership in the field through research, teaching, and engagement with prospective students, current students, faculty, staff, and community members. The School of Music supports new faculty through a successful mentoring program and fosters a welcoming and encouraging environment that allows faculty to thrive. The successful candidate will join the growing Music Therapy team as a new third faculty line.

The School of Music moved into a new state-of-the-art facility in downtown Iowa City in the fall of 2016. The new facility houses a classroom with a one-way mirror and recording capabilities designed to facilitate in-house clinical sessions and research protocols requiring video or audio capabilities.
